Messy Bed, Messy Head

I can't take credit for the title. I learned it from my ex-girlfriend who used to say it to me every morning when she took the 10 seconds needed to make her bed.

For her, this ritual helped her get off on the right foot for her day. She felt like she couldn't concentrate on anything if her bed wasn't made, first thing in the morning.

Did I agree? Nah! That was back when I didn't appreciate how small things like that can add up to help a person feel clear, confident and balanced. I may have even scoffed. Who cares?!

She cared. She needed it. It helped her focus.

Do you have something like this in your life? Something that you do habitually to help you get centered, focused and clear to meet your goals for the day?

Some people meditate.
Some people have the same breakfast.
Some people start their day with a walk.
Some people go to the gym every day at the same time.

Try starting small. Before you get all routine about it, just take a moment right now and identify one thing, one thing, that you can do---that you've been MEANING to do---and have been putting off.

What is one thing that you can accomplish right now to check off your list so you can focus on other things?

Before you keep plowing ahead feeling scatterbrained and disorganized---just take one moment to do one thing that will help you feel more balanced. More focused.

Maybe straighten that pile on your desk?
Maybe throw in a load of laundry?
Maybe chop up some carrots so they are ready to grab and go tomorrow for a snack?

Identify it, do it and cross it off the list.

How does it feel?
